Sew Gussets
STEP 1
Form Loops with Cutouts
We first start by forming the loops that we will use to lace the bag to our frame. Take the strips with the rectangular cutouts and fold length wise down through to middle of the rectangles so that the edges of the cutouts line up with each other. We want to fold the X Pattern onto itself here.
Sew this flap down with a single stitch running the length of the panel. Repeat for the second side forming a second row of loops.
STEP 1
Sew back loops to top side
With our loops formed on both sides of each panel, now fold back the loops (white surface onto white surface) so that they meet in the middle. The tops of the loops from each side should meet perfectly along the middle line.
Sew a single stitch running the length on both sides to keep these loops down.
STEP 1
Fold flap back on Inner Panel
Take each of the gusset panels without loops and fold one edge back approximately 0.5” so the X pattern is touching itself. Sew down this flap.
This will produce the entrance to the pocket that we will eventually use to slide the rigid panels into.
STEP 1
Sew Top and Bottom Panels
Line up the edges of the loop panels and the pocket panels so that the X Pattern is together. Sew around the 3 sides that produce a pocket for us.
Set these aside for the assembly step.
